Worker tries to kill roommate over Dh2,000

The victim said that M.K. stabbed him in the stomach, left hand and shoulder. He also stabbed him in the back.

A Bangladeshi worker faced a premeditated attempted murder charge in the Court of First Instance for trying to kill a fellow Bangladeshi with a knife.

The victim, 29, said in the investigation that M.K. attacked him with a knife in the morning. "We had a dispute over money as he owed me Dh2,000 and I was asking him to pay it back".

The victim said that M.K. stabbed him in the stomach, left hand and shoulder. He also stabbed him in the back.

"He wanted to kill me as he attacked me while I was sleeping and at a time when the others were also sleeping," he noted.

Another Bangladeshi man said that he woke up around 8:00 am to the screams of M.K. "When I turned the light on I saw the victim falling off his bed. He was screaming 'help me, someone killed me'".

The man said that the victim was bleeding from his head, neck and abdomen.

He added that M.K. was sitting on his bedside which was next to victim's, staring at them silently.

"When the police arrived he surrendered calmly to the officers. He confessed to them that he stabbed the victim".

The witness described M.K. as someone who did not sleep.

A police corporal said that they were on a patrol duty when they passed by the house where the incident took place. They saw a man screaming for help.

"The stabbing happened in a shared room with several beds. The victim looked in a bad shape. He pointed at M.K. as the one who stabbed him".

He admitted to them that he stabbed the victim with a knife he had bought from a nearby grocery. "He showed us the blood- tainted knife and we arrested him".

The court adjourned the hearing to February 18.
