Panaji: GMR Airport Limited won the bid to build the international greenfield airport at Mopa, which is estimated to cost over 4,500 crore.

The bidder was selected based on the revenue sharing model. The company, which is already operating airports at Delhi, Hyderabad and and an airport in Philippines, beat two others by offering the highest revenue share of 36.99% to the state government. AAI offered 32.31% and Essel Infra Project Limited offered 27%.

Depute senior officer to trace missing witnesses: HC

Mumbai,  (PTI) The Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra Director General of Police to depute a senior officer not below the rank of Deputy Director General of Police to trace the 11 missing former inmates of Thane Central prison, who were witness to custodial death of a fellow inmate in 1996.

The direction was given by a division bench headed by Justice Abhay Oka yesterday on a public interest litigation alleging that witnesses in the case were not traceable and had gone missing because of which the trial had not progressed in the last few years.

Mumbai, Aug 25 (PTI) Observing that it may not be sufficient to declare welfare schemes or facilities for senior citizens online, the Bombay High Court has asked an NGO to suggest what other measures should Maharashtra government adopt in this regard.

A division bench of Justices Shantanu Kemkar and Makrand Karnik was hearing yesterday a public interest litigation filed by NGO 'Mission Justice', seeking awareness among senior citizens about the 'Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Citizens Act' and its effective implementation.

NEW DELHI: Refuting marathon runner OP Jaisha's claim of official apathy, Athletics Federation of India (AFI) issued a statement saying that it was the athlete and her coach who refused to avail the option of having energy drinks during the race at theRio Olympics.

Jaisha on Monday alleged that Indian officials did not arrange for water and energy drinks during her race in the Rio Olympics run under scorching heat despite designated stations being given for the country, a claim denied by Athletics Federation of India.

Three people died and nineteen were injured on Monday after a high intensity blast at Vishal Paper Mill on Dhuri Road of Malerkotla. Seven labourers who were critically injured were referred to hospitals in Patiala and Ludhiana. Rest were admitted at Civil Hospital, Malerkotla.

GUWAHATI: The anti-talk faction of ULFA militants on Monday released video footage of a youth abducted from Assam and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

They released a video showing Kuldip Moran appealing to his family, BJP legislator Bolin Chetia and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to secure his release by paying the outlawed outfit.

The video shows a terrified Kuldip surrounded by five armed and black masked youth. He pleads for his life and talks about his failing health as he fears for his life in the crossfire between militants and the state.

FSSAI may monitor water supplied by municipalities

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is preparing draft regulations that may extend its purview to water supplied by municipalities and food cooked in places of worship.

"The central consumer council has suggested water served by municipalities be brought under a nodal agency. We are incorporating these recommendations," said Pawan Kumar Agarwal, chief executive officer, FSSAI.

The FSSAI is also planning to set up at least 100 corporate training centres by 2019 to provide training and certification programmes, and improve consumer awareness.
