Energy conservation plans in place by French CG office

Puducherry, Jan 9 (PTI): The more than three century old building housing the office of the Consul Ceneral of France here has been accorded the highest five star rating by Bureau of Energy Efficiency in recogntion of environment friendly steps taken by it for energy conservation.

A Consulate release said today that as per an Energy Audit in 2015, the building `has fulfilled the criteria for a five star rating, the highest level of certification of energy efficiency issued by Bureau of Energy Efficiency`.
Inspired by the United Nations Conference on Climate Change held in Paris in December 2015 (known as COP 21) the Embassy of France in India in New Delhi decided to implement several projects to make the French Consulate General building even more environment friendly during last year.

This was done in addition to the several energy conservation initiatives already implemented over the past few years, the release said.

On the steps already taken, it said that in 2016 the Office had installed a roof top on grid solar system of 45.36 KW plant producing an average 5,700 units of power a month.

Since mid July last year the plant had produced more than 33,000 units of power, saving more than Rs 2.3 lakh, it said.

In 2016, the consulate had replaced 49 air conditioners by new ones using inverter technology to substantially bring down power costs.

Important work was renovation of central hall where all halogen lamps were replaced with LED lamps and there was also increase in use of natural light, which would ultimately enhance the saving of energy, the release pointed out.

There had been continuous technical improvemednts and change in user habits for over a decade at the consulate, now making it very environment friendly, the release said.
