Google Nexus 5X review

Nexus 5 was undoubtedly a great smartphone, offering excellent performance, decent design, and good build quality. It was not the most powerful handset when it was launched, but it got the job done, more importantly, at a price that did not burn a hole in the buyers' pocket.

Its successor Nexus 6, however, was hardly fit to take over the position as the best Google had to offer: It is certainly a powerful device, but the huge screen and the equally big price tag prohibited buyers to flock to the new Nexus model as they did to its predecessor.

Now is the turn of Nexus 5X to give it a shot at becoming the best smartphone offered by Google yet, at a relatively modest price tag. On the face of it, the smartphone has a lot to offer, but it also has a few limitations that may prevent it from becoming a hit.

Find out exactly what the device is all about in our Google Nexus 5X review...

Design
From the outset, it is clear Nexus 5X is not going to win any design awards. The all-plastic body is made of the same soft plastic material that was previously used in Nexus 5 (and a few other smartphones).

The front panel has the standard Nexus design, featuring a selfie camera above the display and no hardware buttons. Above and below the Nexus 5X screen are speaker grilles; however, only the one at the bottom acts as the loudspeaker.

Amazon plans Diwali e-store in US, UK

BENGALURU: Amazon will open a Diwali Store on its US and UK websites this year. The objective is to cater to the anticipated huge demand from the millions of Indians who live in these countries. The move has been made possible by the 5,000 Indian sellers on its platform who are eligible to export from here.

For the e-tailing giant, India is no longer just a big market. "We are looking at the country as a big export hub," Diego Piacentini, the company's global head of international consumer business, told TOI.

The export platform was thrown open to sellers in India in February this year on an experimental basis. Now it has been formalized. Indian sellers will be able to sell their products to Amazon's 285 million registered buyers globally.

Modi ties unity to development

APPrime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister says it should pervade ‘our thought, conduct and articulation’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a pitch for unity and diversity on Sunday, saying the mantra of unity should pervade “our thought, conduct and articulation.”

Saluting Sardar Patel for geographically uniting India, Mr. Modi called for social unity in his Mann Ki Baat address to the nation. “India is a nation of diversities. There are many sects, communities, languages and castes. India is a diverse country and this diversity is our adornment,” he said. “Peace, harmony and unity are necessary for development.”

Mr. Modi’s statement follows statements made by him and President Pranab Mukherjee in the wake of an outcry over the killing of a Muslim at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh on the suspicion of storing beef and the “insensitive” statements made by some BJP leaders after the incident.

Why Obama Decided to Leave Thousands of Troops in Afghanistan

File photo of US President Barack Obama.
WASHINGTON: President Obama announced a significant shift to his Afghanistan exit plan Thursday: Instead of exiting, there will now be up to 5,500 U.S troops staying in Afghanistan through at least 2017.

The sudden departure from Obama's proposed strategy in 2014 comes after months of major attacks by insurgent groups across Afghanistan, where the Taliban have recently gained territory -- most notably temporarily holding the key northern hub of Kunduz, the first major city to fall to the insurgents since 2001.

How's this for hero worship? Now, a temple for Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu will be the presiding deity in a temple being built at Harischandrapuram village. In all likelihood, the larger-than-life idol of Naidu will be consecrated in about six months from the start date of construction.

The temple is set to be located on the banks of the Krishna at Harishchandrapuram in Amaravati – the new Capital Region of the state. The proposed temple will be on government land, though the size of it has not been finalised. This is the brainwave of one Buddi Satish Babu, vice-president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Tullur mandal, the eye of the new capital, Amaravati.

Satish Babu told Firstpost that they had not finalised the maker of the idol yet. “We want to hire the best makers. Mostly, the order will be placed with statue makers in Tenali. We will do it, once we commence the construction,” he said. As regards temple’s rituals, he said they would be no different from five other temples in the village. He is considering appointing a priest (pujari) for this. To a query if he proposed to have rituals like ‘Ashtottharam, Sasharsanama, Abhishekam’ for Chandrababu, Satish said nothing had been planned yet. But pundits will be consulted before drawing up the rituals and procedures.

This Train Station In Kerala Uses Flowers Grown In Recycled Plastic Bottles To Help Prevent Accidents

Aluva is a quaint little town in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, but it's now known for something you wouldn't visualise on an Indian train station.
Neha Venkatesh was transiting through the station when she noticed plastic bottles painted yellow and white with China Rose flowers growing out of them.

She later found out that it was the efforts of the Station Master and the Health Inspector whose plan was threefold: to recycle plastic bottles thrown out of train compartments, to beautify the station and to discourage people from crossing over the tracks.
